Although some may see the process of providing trails in a landscape or habitat as a simple one, where a group of folk go round hammering markers into the hillside, this belies the often exhaustive work required before anything at all can appear on the ground.
Most projects, whether national or regional strategy or individual trail projects begin with the development of clear frames of reference, where key factors affecting trail development are identified and agreed upon with all stakeholders, and this then guides the rest of the development process. All development is guided by a clear sustainability framework and this, along with the frame of reference, helps to get the right trails in the right places in the right ways.
